An artist’s perspective on volcanic landscapes.
Cratera is a performing arts project that explores volcanic lanscapes, their profound connection to the pulse and breath of the Earth. The imagery linked to volcanoes is not only vast and visually striking but also infused with poetic power. This production seeks to evoke, delve into and intimately grasp this imagery. Cratera takes shape as an interdisciplinary journey, blending dance, theatre, sound and imagery, aiming to facilitate profound connections with the Earth, experiences that demand alternative forms of language and heightened awareness. It is a production that aspires to ignite a reimagining of Gaia, encouraging us to perceive organic materials and minerals as vibrant forces that operate both around and within us.
André Braga and Cláudia Figueiredo are the artistic directors of CiRcoLando – Central Elétrica, a creation and residency centre based in Porto. Their work primarily revolves around interdisciplinary intersections, with a specific emphasis on the performing arts. This artistic pair distinguishes themselves by navigating the border space, cultivating a language deeply rooted in transdisciplinarity. They advocate for a dialogue between dance and theatre, integrating components from various creative realms, including poetry, the visual arts, music and video. Themes such as body archive, memory, eco-thinking, geopoetics, landscape, post-colonisation and perspectives from the Global South currently fuel their creative exploration.
