When we talk about an anecdote in 19th-century painting, we refer to human figures, cattle or even the smoke of a chimney that appears in a painting. In the work of the painters of the Olot school (Catalonia), the landscape was not autonomous, the presence and anthropocentric vision was dominant. This exhibition proposes to blur the anecdote in these paintings where the instrumentalization of the landscape was and is relevant. Based on the vision explored in the company of the l’Observatori del Paisatge, we propose a choral rereading focused on the painting l’estiu, by Joaquim Vayreda. An invitation to reorient ourselves from the call and its echo, proposing more horizontal views, where the ‘anecdote’ is revealed through the subjectivity of color, landscape and the construction of the images.
Ariadna Rodriguez and Iñaki Alvarez form the duo known as nyamnyam. Drawing from their diverse backgrounds and experiences across various disciplines, their work is dedicated to fostering the creation, dissemination and exchange of knowledge through interactive strategies in every local and global context they engage with. Situated at the intersection of live arts, visual arts, critical thinking and pedagogy, nyamnyam’s practice oscillates between project development and curation, acting as an interdisciplinary space for connection and disruption. They have honed their skills in a multitude of contexts and geographical settings. Following eight years of activity at their Barcelona-based studio, they inaugurated Espai nyamnyam in Mieres (Girona) in 2020, a platform centred around contemporary artistic expression within the framework of degrowth.
