Screening of the documentary dedicated to the Ballar la Garrotxa project – an initiative that explores the power of dance, celebration and public space in fostering community.

Completed throughout 2024, this project has helped recover individual and collective memories of laughter, friendships and experiences shaped by one celebration after another – village to village, romantic moments, family celebrations, town festivals and acts of resistance against family, religious and political controls in various historical contexts. The film also revisits dance halls, discos, bars and cinemas that no longer exist, as well as migratory processes, with soundtracks that fade into the past or continue to echo through windows, expanding and transforming the musical landscape of the Garrotxa region. This documentary aims to celebrate the journey lived, while also encouraging reflection on the potential of dance and celebration to create spaces for connection, strengthen community ties and envision and activate relationships rooted in public space, care and affection.

Ballar la Garrotxa is a project by the Garrotxa Social Action Consortium and the municipalities of Argelaguer, Castellfollit de la Roca, Mieres, Olot, Les Planes d’Hostoles, La Vall d’en Bas, Riudaura, Tortellà and Sales de Llierca. It has been designed and facilitated by Lo Relacional.
