A contemporary dance production that reinterprets traditional Galician dance while dismantling gender stereotypes.

Un baile Ceibe is a pared-down, daytime choreographic adaptation of the dance production Ceibe by Fran Sieira, compañía de danza. Performed without lighting or set design, this version presents a danced reflection on gender, its stereotypes and how they shape various aspects of everyday life, including a cultural tradition as deeply rooted as Galician dance. The piece primarily seeks to question normative and hegemonic gender identities, drawing them towards the margins, into dissidence, and from there, proposing and constructing new ways of understanding the body and movement.

Fran Sieira, compañía de danza, bases its work on a contemporary reimagining of Galician folklore and traditional dance. The company was founded in 2017 by dancer Francisco Sieira González, following 15 years of performing with professional Galician companies such as GS2, Quique Peón e Cía and Nova Galega de Danza. In 2018, they premiered EntreSoños, their first production, an almost autobiographical work in which the dancer conveyed much of his essence.
With DeMente (2021), the company received seven nominations at the 2022 Premios Max and was featured in the 2022 Camiño Escena Norte programme. The street version was also selected for the Red Acieloabierto 2022 circuit. In 2024, the company premiered Ceibe, a large-scale stage production from which Un baile Ceibe emerged.
