This crater 120 m in diameter and 12 m deep is found at the top of Montsacopa’s volcanic cone. Its cup shape (“copa” in Catalan) is what gives the volcano its name. Bordering the crater to the south is the Church of Sant Francesc and the Carlist towers are to the north. The circular crater is the product of the last phreatomagmatic eruption, when magma interacted with groundwater and triggered an explosive eruption. The crater depression formed due to the expulsion and accumulation of pyroclasts.
